Have Fun with Creative Braces Colors

Though many dread the trip to the orthodontist, getting to choose which colored braces you will wear can make the trip that much more fun.  Whether you are getting braces put on for the first time, or if you have been wearing braces for a while but would like to experiment with a new look, there are a number of fun and exciting color combinations to choose from.  Before you head off to your next appointment, there are a few things that you should keep in mind when choosing a new color or combination for your color braces.

Some bracers wearers are a bit intimidated by the number of color choices available to them.  When you are choosing, try to keep in mind that these colors do not have to be permanent.  In fact, many people who wear braces have the colors changed with each visit.  This is a great way to add a little variety to your life or make your look more festive or season appropriate.  With this in mind, think about any upcoming events that you may have, like sports games or big holidays.  If there are any on the horizon, it may be fun to choose colors that will reflect your school’s colors or colors that are reminiscent of the upcoming holiday.

You can choose any color at all for your braces!

Another great option for choosing braces colors is selecting a few different shades of your favorite color.  If you favor pink, talk to your orthodontist about creating a look that incorporates a number of different pink hues.  Most primary and popular colors are available in a number of different shades, so it is very possible that your orthodontist can accommodate your request.  Sometimes, groups of friends like to select one common color that they will all share.  If this sounds like fun, find a color that you all love and create a look around it.

The last thing to think about before you choose which braces color will work best is the way that it will make your teeth look.  Yellow can be a great color, as it makes teeth look whiter by comparison.  For this same reason, many think that it is best to stay away from shades of white, as it can make teeth look dull.  Bright colors tend to make teeth look whiter, while clear bands provide a nice, neutral look.

On your next visit to the orthodontist, talk to your doctor about the many colored braces options available.

The Cost of Braces

There are certain expenses you know you are going to incur when you have children.  The expenses that we are prepared for and expect are food, clothing, doctors bills, pre-school, and of course, college.  There are the other typical expenses as well, such as little league, soccer, dance, music and who knows what else.  Then there are the expenses that we are not really prepared for and the ones that we hope we do not have to pay.  The number one unexpected and shall we say dreaded expense, braces.

So many children have to wear braces to straighten out their teeth.  This usually occurs around the fifth grade or when all of the child’s baby teeth are out and their grownup teeth grow in.  Children seem to look forward to getting braces these days, though their parents do not always feel the same way.

The average cost for ordinary, traditional braces can range from $5,400 to $7,600 depending on what you have to have done.  If you choose to get brackets that are the color of your teeth rather than silver colored brackets you can add about $500 to the cost of the braces.  Another choice that you have are behind the teeth braces.  These are more expensive and can cost you an additional $2,000-$5,000.  One other choice that you have is the Invisalign trays.

Braces for your child can be one of their most costly expenses.

If you are fortunate enough to have dental insurance your children should be covered up until the age of 18.  So, if your child does need braces and you have dental insurance make sure that you get them done before they age of 18, they will not cover the braces when they are adults.

Like anything that you purchase there are all different types and brands that you can choose from.  From the generic to the designer, braces really are not any different.  Now, you might not think this is going to be a problem but remember, if your child has a friend with specific brackets and colored rubber bands, your child is sure to want them.  When you are already spending $6000 on teeth what is another $300 into the mix.

Children will now have a choice of shaped brackets, gold brackets, tooth colored brackets and colored brackets; of course these will cost you a little bit extra.  When all is said and done, be prepared to spend on average of around $6,500 on your child’s braces.

All About Adult Braces

It can be frustrating to need braces as an adult, especially if you have gone through the process of having your teeth covered in metal when you were younger.  An adult with a mouth full of braces may find it a burden to go about their daily routines, and depending on their profession, may have a hard time performing their job functions.

Many adults are finding themselves in the position of needing braces for various reasons, and are willing to endure a metal smile and the physical and social discomfort to correct their teeth, and prevent them from becoming more uneven.  Uneven teeth are not just a cosmetic problem, they can affect a person’s speech, and of course, how they eat their food.  Uneven teeth can also contribute to bad gums.

Adults can wear braces too, its not a big deal!

Despite this, the psychological aspect of wearing metal braces accounts for more adults not wearing braces when they need them.  In a way, this is ironic. When a person has their teeth straightened and improves their smile, it can provide a boost to their confidence and self-esteem.

However, with the advent of invisible braces, adults need not worry about carrying a metal smile around while they have their teeth fixed. Invisible braces are clear and difficult to see.  The plastic alignment pieces of braces like Invisalign are individually made to fit a person’s teeth.  Because they are individual pieces, they allow for greater comfort while wearing, and can be removed for cleaning or during meals.

Invisible braces cost a premium, but for many they are well worth the extra couple of thousand dollars.

While invisible may be the first choice, adults with serious orthodontic problems may not be ideal candidates to wear invisible adult braces.  A second choice to all metal adult braces are clear or white braces attached to the teeth, which are more effective at pushing the teeth in to place in a short period of time.  The cost of these braces is more comparable to that of traditional braces.

Adults of all ages, even the elderly, get braces.  Orthodontic treatment is just another aspect of taking good care of your body, and should not be overlooked.  Getting adult braces can even change the look of your face.  With teeth in proper alignment, cheekbones may be more prominent or jaw lines reduced.  Not to be overlooked is the benefit of adult braces for improving a person’s smile.
